Styrian GP Qualifying: Lewis Hamilton Defiles Wet-Weather Condition To Claim Pole Position
Styrian Grand Prix qualifying was marred by poor weather condition but Mercedes' world champion driver, Lewis Hamilton, defiled the situation to win his season's first pole position in a race which was initially canceled due to heavy downpour before it was reinstated.
The six-time champion was challenged in the final by Red Bull Max Verstappen and could not cause a scare when he half-spin at the final corner while the Brit maintained his pace and warded him off to clinch the pole. Max, in the end, finished in second place.
"What a tricky day," said Hamilton recalling the wet condition. "A lot of time you can't see where you are going...I love these days! I think we are prepared for both conditions."
Valterri Bottas finished behind exiting McLaren driver Carlos Sainz, who followed in the third position for his impressive start to the season and Renault Esteban Ocon followed the Mercedes driver in the fifth position.
For Ferrari, both drivers fell behind in the standings as Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc will on Sunday start in the 10th and eleventh positions respectively.
