Premier League: Mason Greenwood Gifts Manchester United Equaliser Against West Ham
Manchester United have boosted their chance for a Champions League appearance for sharing a point apiece with West Ham in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Despite gifting away an opener to Hammers on the brink of half time over a handball offense committed by Paul Pogba following a free-kick, they later bounced back from the deficit to equalize after the break.
The VAR ruled a penalty for the needless handball committed by Pogba for getting his hands on the ball in flight from Declan Rice's shot and Michail Antonio converted the spot-kick to put Hammers in the lead.
Mason Greenwood followed up after the break to level the scoring by smashing home a well-aimed right-footed shot from inside the box after a one-two ball with Anthony Martial.
The equalizer scored by Greenwood marked his seventeenth goal in all competitions on his 50th appearance for United since his senior team debut against Cardiff in May last year.
In spite of the draw, Hammers are already guaranteed to escaping the relegation zone having gained four points clear the redline with one match remaining to wrap up the season.
Meanwhile, United needed just a point to claim the third position in the table as they trail Manchester City and will need at least a draw against Leicester City in the last game of the season.
