La Liga: Lionel Messi Expresses Frustration With Barcelona Over Losing Title To Real Madrid
Lionel Messi has expressed his frustrations over Barcelona's failure to defend La Liga's title after finishing the season in second place with 79 points behind Real Madrid and he complained that the team is now "weak and lost shape".
Barcelona lost the contest for the league title to their arch-rivals the Bernabeu side, who returned from the coronavirus pandemic break to overtake them and emerged as the champions after beating Villareal 2-1 on Thursday.
"I said a while ago that if we carry on like this it will be very hard for us to win the Champions League," he explained. "We couldn't even win La Liga. If we don't react, we won't beat Napoli."
He added, "We were not expecting this. We didn't want to and La Liga playing like this, but it kind of reflects how this whole year has gone."
Real finished the season with seven points lead over Barcelona and clinched the club's 34th title and their head coach Zinedine Zidane's first in three years since his return from resignation.
Left to the six-time Ballon d'Or, Madrid deserved the title because they "did their job" right to win the title and for Barcelona, he said, "We were weak and lost our shape. They beat us because we lacked intensity and conceded an easy goal. We have lost lots of points this season when we shouldn't have."
