Italia Serie A: Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes Fastest Player To Score 50 Goals
Juventus have edged closer to clinching their ninth successive Serie A title in a row and that is coming with a huge contribution from Cristiano Ronaldo, whose double lead the side to beat Lazio 2-1 in Turin on Monday.
As the club extended their lead on the table over the nearest team by eight points, the Portuguese striker also extended his goal tally in two seasons to its 50th making him the fastest player to reach the benchmark in the Italia Serie A.
During the game, Lazio's Ciro Immobile had attempted putting the side in the lead with a 20-yard shot that clipped the pole after Thomas Strakosha saved Adrien Rabiot's left-footed shot from inside the box.
Ronaldo later ended the deadlock after the halftime break, converting a penalty drawn from Bartolomeu Bastos' handball and doubled the lead with a tap in following a fastbreak inspired by Paulo Dybala.
The two goals scored clocked the 50th in 61 league games for the striker, upsetting the previous record set for the feat by Andriy Schevchenko (50 goals in 68 games) at AC Milan in 2001/02.
Maurizio Sarri, who replaced the club's former head coach Allegri Massimiliano last season, will be lifting his career first league title with the team and Ronaldo's second since his arrival at the club since 2017/18 from Real Madrid.
