Hungary GP: Lewis Hamilton Wins 90th Career Pole
Lewis Hamilton has claimed a career milestone of 90th pole wins at the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifier which is the all-time biggest recorded in the history of the sport. The six-time world champion was closely followed by his teammate Valterri Bottas for a one-time victory at the qualifying session.
Though challenged by the Finn driver, Bottas, Hamilton could not yet be troubled in Q3 and delivered an electrifying pace to lead his teammate by 0.107sec for his seventh pole in Hungary.
"I have to pinch myself. It just doesn't register," said Hamilton. "It is quite humbling because I get to work with an incredible group of people without who I wouldn't have the opportunity to do so."
Ferarri witnessed an impressive performance from its lead driver Sebastian Vettel who battled hard for the third place but was beaten by Racing Points duo Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez, both of whom finished third and fourth. Charles Leclerc followed in the sixth position behind his teammate Vettel.
Speaking after the race, championship leader, Bottas, who put up a good contest against Hamilton at Q3 admitted I just couldn't go any faster" than he did.
Lance and Perez's performance set a new height for Racing Point in Hungary, until today, the best shots they had at this Grand Prix was 16th position. They will be faced with a strong contest from the Ferrari duo in their contest for the podium on Sunday.
