Formula One: Fernando Alonso Returns To Join Renault Next Year

Former Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso has announced he will be returning from retirement with Renault Racing Team next season.

The 39-year-old who is also a two-time world champion with the racing outfit retired from the sport in August 2018 after three successive seasons of unimpressive performance with McLaren.

Though the outfit's spokesperson declined to confirm the speculation, however, the BBC Sport revealed the Spaniard has signed a deal with the team and it will confirm that soon.

This is following the exit of Daniel Ricciardo from the team next season to replace Carlos Sainz in McLaren after the Spaniard was signed by Ferrari to replace its out-going driver, Sebastian Vettel.

Alonso, at the age of 24 in 2005, upset the record set for the youngest Formula One world champion by Emerson Fittipaldi in 1972, the following year, he became the youngest driver ever to win the title back-to-back.
