Toto Wolff Hopes To Sign Sebastian Vettel To Mercedes

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has hinted at his team intentions to welcome former Ferrari pilot Sebastian Vettel to the team and he has been on their top on their consideration since the driver "suddenly" left his former team.

This season will be the last for the four-time champion with Ferrari after both parted ways in May, paving the way to Carlos Sainz to replace him in the team from 2021. The German is yet to make a decision on his future and Toto is already considering him for a seat in Mercedes with the hope that he would not decline the offer.

"It's not lip service, but we owe it to a four-time champion not to come out and say straight away 'no'. You need to think about it," Toto confirmed interest in Sebastian.

Speaking to Martin Bundle on Sky Sports F1 on Wednesday, the Mercedes Principal admitted that it is uncertain what will be German's decision as he might go the way of Nico Rosberg, who retired from the sport after winning the championship in 2017.

He added, "I've seen black swan appearing when nobody suspected - remember Nico Rosberg. In that respect, we're just keeping our options open, but of course, concentrating our discussions with our current drivers."

Mind you, Toto his not hoping Sebastian will take the place of Lewis Hamilton but rather would sign a new contract with the defending champion as soon as the season gets on the way. However, the need for Sebastian will arise if they can resolve their internal problem which might see Hamilton and Sebastian lead the grid for Mercedes.
