RB Leipzig Manager Shuts Down Claims Timo Werner Not Playing In Champions League

Julian Nagelsmann, RB Leipzig head coach, has addressed the speculations that Chelsea-bound striker Timo Werner, will refuse to be part of his team for the remaining part of the Champions League. He insisted that he is still his player despite agreeing to a deal in principle with the Premier League side.

Leipzig are in the quarter-finals of the competition which they have reached by beating Tottenham back-to-back in the knockout stages to secure a place in the Last 8 for the first time in the club's history.

Chelsea, however, are in a dicey situation in reaching the quarter-final of the Champions League after losing the first leg of the knockout stages by 3-0 to Bayern Munich before the season was suspended over the global outbreak of the coronavirus.

"He's currently, as usual, in my plans to play the Champions League. He is our player and has not signed for anyone else," said Nagelsmann.

Rumours of the German player being ruled out of the Champions League surfaced in reports on Monday with the claims that he has told the club that he has ruled himself out of the team for the Champions League because of the £53 million deal he agreed with Chelsea in May.

The RBL manager clarified that as things stand between the two clubs, "there are no regulations" as a deal is yet to be signed. As for Timo, he added, "His importance to RB Leipzig is extraordinary. He has an incredibly good goalscoring rate, which you always hope for from a striker."
