Premier League: Neal Maupay's Last Minutes Strike Sealed Victory For Brighton Against Arsenal
Arsenal's performance continued to go in a downward spiral as they lose their second game upon their return from the coronavirus pandemic lockdown in a 2-1 away defeat to Brighton.
Brighton staged a comeback from a goal down to Arsenal in the second half and snatched the victory off their grasp after Neal Maupay scored the winning goal in the stoppage time. Gunners who played without David Luiz could not hold down the lead secured from Nicolas Pepe's strike.
The two goals conceded were products of poor defensive play by Gunners and the 95th-minute sinker from Maupay came off a one-two ball with Aaron Conolly in front of the defense, made a superb turn to catch the ball on the left flank of the box and volleyed home the winner.
Arsenal's lead was shortlived after an equalizer was scored by Lewis Dunk eight minutes later, tapping into the net Solly March's cross following a corner.
Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette did put Brighton's goalkeeper Matthew Ryan to the test as Saka's 19-yard shot bound off the crossbar and Lacazette's header was saved before Pepe curled home a left-footed shot from inside of the box.
Mikel Arteta's men have now lost two matches in a row and that further jeopardizes their bid to make at least a Europa League qualification as they are ninth with 40 points in the table.
