Premier League: Liverpool Crowned As Champions, End 30 Years Title-Drought
Liverpool, for the first time in 30 years, have emerged as the Premier League champions with a massive 26-point lead over the nearest team Manchester City, who lost 2-1 Chelsea at Stanford Bridge forfeiting their title defense as a result.
This season's title end that ended Reds' drought of three decades followed the champions fierce contest for the glory last season which lost to Pep Guardiola-led City by just a point difference. They went on to wrap up the season winning the Champions League, EUFA Super Cup, and Fifa Club World Cup.
Reds coming out as the champions did not happen without a wonderful performance that saw the team led an unbeaten run for a calendar year including 44 league games win. That happened to be the longest streak in the Premier League since 2003/04 when Arsenal recorded 49 successive wins under former manager Arsene Wenger.
"I have no words," said Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports. "It is the best thing I can imagine and more than I could have ever dreamed of. It's unbelievable. Much more than I ever thought would be possible."
The team has for three consecutive seasons, maintained an incredible form such that before winning the Champions League last season, they had first reached the final for the first time since 2006/7 and finished as runners-up after losing the final match to Real Madrid.
