Paris Saint Germain: Edision Cavani And Thiago Silva To Leave In Summer

Paris Saint Germain have confirmed that any of its players whose contract expires at the end of the season will be leaving the club in the summer transfer window as they will not be issued with an extension.

The club's sporting director Leonard made this known speaking to Le Journal du Dimanche and revealed that it was a difficult decision for the club but has to for logic sake. The team's captain Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani are in the list of players that will leave the club at the end of the season.

"It was a difficult decision to make," said Leonard. "They are players who made their mark on the club's history. We had to make a decision based on logic."

Most of the players involved have until June 30 in the contract but It is understood that the players will be allowed to finish remaining part of the Champions League with the club. PSG have reached the quarter-finals of the competition after defeating Borussia Dortmund in the knockout stages before the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown interrupted the season for more than three months.

PSG were crowned winners of the 2020 season following the inability to complete the season over the outbreak of the killer bug and since they led the table by a good margin points fear enough to be declared winners of the title as allowed for by a directive issued by UEFA over the pandemic.

Cavani is the club's longest-serving player after spending seven years at the club during which he reached a goalscoring milestone of 200 goals in over 300 appearances. In his period at the club, he won with the team six successive Ligue 1 titles.
