Lord of the Rings Star Actor Ian Holm Has Died, Aged 88


Versatile British actor, Sir Ian Holm, who is known for his role in Lord of the Rings, Alien, and Chariots of Fire has passed away in London, United Kingdom. He was aged 88.

The deceased died in the early hours of Friday, June 19, at a London hospital surrounded by his family and his carer. The cause of his death was revealed to be Parkinson-related according to his agent speaking to The Guardian.  

"It is with great sadness that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88," the source revealed. "he died peacefully in hospital with his family and career."

Ian's career was well-decorated with awards - ten in total, starting with winning a Bafta for best supporting male actor for his role in his debut film The Bofors Gun in 1968 and the latest was Critics' Choice Movie Award for best acting Ensemble for his role in the Lord of the Rings in 2004. He was nominated for an Emmy Award twice, and for an Oscars, he was nominated once for his role as Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire in 1981. 

The late actor was married four times during his lifetime and was survived by five children - Harry, Barnaby, Jessica, Lissy, and Sarah-Jane -  and two grandchildren - Edie Holm and Theodore Holm.
