Liverpool Plan To Offer Lovren To Secure Kaliduo Koulibaly's Signature

Liverpool has unveiled plans to beat their counterparts in the race to secure a transfer for Napoli's defender Kaliduo Koulibaly this summer. Their plan reportedly is to offer a center-back to force the fee required for the player to drop in the bid for his move.

Koulibaly stands to upset the previous record set for signing a defender with a transfer fee of £90million demanded by Napoli for his transfer which most clubs might find out-of-reach this summer since they have just come out of the Covid-19 lockdown that has devastated the finances.

Though the player once mentioned he would favour a move to City to play for Pep Guardiola, still issue with that potential is the price tag which might not affordable for City. Manchester United as well have for a while been linked to the 29-year-old whose fee they also can not meet up with - their offer of £71m was rejected by the Italians.

Lovren has just one season left in his contract, thus instead of Reds to him leave as a free agent by next summer, according to Tuttosport, it is understood that they hope by including him in the deal as an exchange which might bring down the asking price for Koulibaly.

Currently, United's Harry Maguire holds the record-signing fee for a defender - he was signed from Leicester for £80m last summer - and that stands to be toppled by the signing of the Senegalese should he secure a deal to leave Napoli, who are technically out of the race for Champions League appearance next season.
