Lionel Messi In Talks With Barcelona For Two-Year Contract Extension With 7-Figure Wages
Lionel Messi and Barcelona are reportedly working towards entering into a new contract that will keep the player for another two seasons for a seven-figure weekly salary, dashing any expectation of leaving Nou Camp any time soon.
Expectations are that the Argentine would try his feet in a different league rather than stay on at Barcelona where he has spent all his footballing career. Manchester United, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, and Bayern Munich are amongst the clubs that have shown interest in him.
Apparently, Messi whose current contract is set to expire next year will remain at the club as his father is in talks with the club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu for his contract extension, which also comes with an option for yet another extension and this deal in the discussion will see him earn as much as £1.15m-a-week according to Muncho Deportivo.
Though the source also doubted the possibility of the six-time Ballon d'Or winner getting paid that much from the new deal because of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown which did impact the club's revenue generation. Still, the 32-year-old is the highest-paid footballer having a weekly wage of £646,000-a-week followed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. respectively.
