La Liga: Lionel Messi Scores 700th Career Goal In Barcelona's Disappointing Draw With Atletico Madrid

Barcelona's title quest continues to suffer a setback after being held to a 2-2 draw by Atletico Madrid with Saul Niguez converting two penalties after the break.

Despite the disappointment, Lionel recorded his 70th career goals by converting the penalty that put Barcelona in the lead over Atletico after playing through the first on level terms, 1-1.

At this stage, Barcelona have been thrown in the trailed by Real Madrid who has secured the table lead by a 1-point margin and that could get even wider if they won their game Getafe on Wednesday.

The match which witnessed three penalties in a single game started off with Diego Costa gifting away an opening goal to hosts in the eleventh minute before Saul put the visitors back on track by converting a spot-kick eight minutes later on.

Therefore, should Madrid win their home game against Getafe, Barcelona will drop behind in the race to the league title by a four-point margin, giving the Zinedine Zidane-led the chance to coast to their first without Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the team to join Juventus in 2017/2018.
