Former Chelsea Player Urges Kalidou Koulibaly To Ignore Manchester United For Move To Chelsea

Kalidou Koulibaly has been urged to snub transfer interest from his long time chasers Manchester United and go for Chelsea instead. Should the two clubs be difficult choices for him Liverpool will be his best move as he seeks to leave Napoli in summer.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf told ESPN that United will not be the right move him but will fit in rightly at Chelsea where he believes a defender like him is really needed.

"I will never ask him to go to Manchester United for many reasons," said Leboeuf. "I want him to win stuff and I think Manchester United is not the club that they used to be an they're not ready to win stuff."

United were linked to the defender last summer with a world-record fee of £84m that at the time was unaffordable for Red Devils as the Italians were keened on keeping him, As Napoli's their chances of making the Champions League next season are slim being sixth on the table, Koubaly leaving in summer is imminent.

The Premier League is set to return on June 17 and United are closely trailing Chelsea by three points as both are seeking to secure a Champion League slot in the top four. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been bolstering their squad having secured a deal with RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner and Ajax attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech.

"I think Chelsea will need a player like that. I don't know if Koulibaly will be interested," Leboeuf added. "But even if they have twp very good central defenders, Koulibaly I think belongs to another level and would fit very well."

However, securing Koulibaly's signature will come at a fee that will make him the world's most expensive defender as Napoli are reportedly sticking up £89m for the defender.

As Liverpool have also been linked to him, the former Chelsea player suggested that teaming up with Virgil van Dijk van at Anfield will set Reds off for another title next season. He described having both players at Liverpool as the "best central defence in the world."
