Conor McGregor Declares His Retirement From Fighting
It is an end of an era for Conor McGregor who ended his mixed martial art career following a declaration of his retirement from the sport.
The Irish fighter took to his official Twitter page to break the news to his followers in a picture update of himself and his mother with a caption that reads, "Hey guys I've decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for all the memories!"
Sunday's announcement happened to be the third time the former world champion will be declaring his intention to quit the sport. His recent shock retirement declaration was last year, a few weeks after his stunning 40 seconds knockout of American fighter Donald Cerrone - he returned to fighting later in the same year. The first shock announcement he made was in 2016.
He added, "What a ride it's been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dream Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it's yours.
McGregor's anticipated rematch fight against Khabib will not be happening having retired. In his first fight with Khabib in 2018, the two-time champion conceded defeat to by submission to the Russian who mauled him. He was meant to fight the winner between the Russian and an American fighter Justin Gaethje.
The 31-year-old had a boxing experience during his fighter career with the former world champion, Floyd Mayweather, whom he challenged to a fight that ended in his defeat in the ninth round.
