Taika Waititi To Direct And Co-Write New Star Wars


Disney and Lucasfilm are gearing up for the production of the next installment of Star Wars films and have appointed who will helm the affairs of the making and writing of the script.

Taika Waititi, New Zealand actor and filmmaker from Thor: Ragnarok, was confirmed by the studios on Monday as the director and co-writer of the new Star Wars film alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns from 1917.

Handling a Star Wars project, happened not the first time the 44-year-old, who directed the first season finale of The Mandolorian and won an Oscar at the 2019 ceremony for writing for another film Jojo Rabbit.

Unlike Waititi, Wilson-Cairns is a first-timer in the Star Wars project and her inclusion makes her the first woman ever to write a script for the franchise. Her WWll drama '1917' also received recognition from the Academy and was nominated for an Oscar at the 2020 ceremony.

Thor: Ragnarok was a success for Waititi at the box office in 2017, opening at the #1 spot with a domestic gross of $122.7 million and closed with a global gross of $853.97 million.
