Spanish La Liga Given Green Light To Resume From June 8

La Liga has been given the go-ahead to return from suspension by the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who announced on Saturday, that professional sports can restart from June 8.

The league has since mid-March been suspended over the spread of the killer bug called Covid-19, which has impacted terribly on revenue generation of clubs and players likewise their coaches will be taking pay cuts to help their clubs deal with the situation.

"Spain has done what it should and now new horizons are opening for everyone," said Sanchez. "The time has come to bring back many day-to-day activities. From 8 June, La Liga will be back."

La Liga, in a tweet on Saturday, confirmed the second division will also return next month but did not give the actual date when games are set to kick-off in both divisions.

"The Spanish government has given the green light for the return of professional sport - including #LaLigaSantander and #LaLigaSmartBank - as of June 8th, following guidelines from the Ministry of Health. #BackToWin," La Liga confirmed the return on Saturday.

There are expectations that the league will restart on June 12 as hinted earlier this month by the league president Javier Tebas who expressed his desire to have fixtures daily once the restriction is lifted.

Meanwhile, the German Bundesliga returned last weekend and it is the first domestic league in Europe to return from the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. The Premier League is also expected to return in June as teased by Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos but French Ligue 1 and Dutch Eredivise have been canceled.
