Roberto Martinez Extends Contract As Belgium Head Coach


Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has extended his contract until 2022 which gives him the opportunity to lead the country to the 2022 Fifa World for the second time in a row.

The former Swansea and Wigan manager led the country to finish third at the 2018 Fifa World Cup behind Croatia and France who the trophy for the first time in 20 years.

The 46-year-old revealed he felt it is not time yet for him to part ways with the team that he "believe immensely in" and would like to use this time to set a "beautiful legacy".

"I feel everything is in place to work towards a beautiful legacy in Belgian football," said Martinez. "I believe immensely in this group of players. I feel that it wasn't time to break that relationship, so it's time to look forward to a very intense international period."

Martinez was appointed as the head coach in 2016 and his team has been drawn in Group B of the Euro 2020 alongside Finland, Denmark, and Russia. Keep in mind that Euro 2020 has been postponed until 11 June 2021.
