Robert Lewandowski Leads Bayern Munich To Victory On Bundesliga Return
Bayern Munich claimed first win since the Covid-19 lockdown break in a 2-0 away win against FC Union Berlin with Robert Lewandowski leading the way to maintain their lead in the league by four points.
The match was played behind closed doors, so silent that players' choice can be heard echoing through the stadium, it used to be an extraordinary situation in football forced sanction from the governing body, but this is how the game will be until the virus pandemic is over.
Bayern did not have to face much threat from Berlin to earn the victory as Lewandowski converted a penalty conceded by Neven Subotic late in the first half and the second goal came from Benjamin Pavard's header following a cross from Joshua Kimmich with ten minutes remaining to play.
Meanwhile, the goal margin could have been wide had the referee not rule out Thomas Muller's goal in the first for being in off position. Nevertheless, Bayern had a comfortable game against their host, Berlin.
Bundesliga is the first European domestic league to return from the pandemic after two months break with the remaining fixtures in the season to be played without spectators.
