Premier League Will Return From Suspension In June
The Premier League season is set to resume next month as clubs have agreed unanimously to return from the two months break forced upon the league by the coronavirus lockdown.
With games set to restart on June 17, Manchester City vs Arsenal and Aston Villa vs Sheffield United are understood to be the first fixture upon resumption. However, the game will resume fully from June 20 with a bunch of fixtures already lineup for the weekend.
In the same vein, Spanish La Liga is also set to return next month while the Bundesliga has already returned since May 16. Meanwhile, Lyon have claimed on the French authorities to consider the cancelation of the Ligue 1 season while the Dutch Eredivise League will remain suspended until September.
Before the suspension, Liverpool had secured a comfortable 25-point lead in the table which put in the advantage of winning the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years. According to BBC Sport, there are as many as 92 fixtures remaining to be played.
The outcome of Manchester City's game against Arsenal in their first game after the lockdown would determine Reds' Premier League title fate. Reds stand to emerge as the champions if City who trailed by 25 points lost to Arsenal on June 17.
Overseas, Paris Saint Germain have been declared champions of Ligue 1 on merit since the league has been canceled and Ajax was denied the Dutch Eredivisie title because they are closely trailed by AZ Alkmaar by goals difference - both teams tied on points.
