Philippe Coutinho: Arsenal To Enter Into Transfer Talks With Barcelona
The Spaniards have lowered their fee demand for the attacking midfielder to £71 million to ease his transfer to Arsenal, which was necessary for the cash-strapped side that boasts of having one of the world's highest-paid players in its squad.
In the midst of this, Arsenal are not alone in the race for Philippe who has also been linked to Chelsea and his former team Liverpool. Though all these clubs' finances have also been impacted by the lockdown, nevertheless, Chelsea and Liverpool have been strict on their spending in the two previous transfer windows giving them the financial edge in their pursuit of Philippe.
Moving to La Liga has proven to be unfortunate for the Brazilian having failed to be impressive at Barcelona despite joining the side in 2018 for £142 million from Liverpool, which was a record transfer fee for the club.
Barca hoped that Philippe would be their new Neymar Jr, who left the side to join PSG in a record-breaking transfer £198m but had to loan him to Bayern Munich after failing to deliver on the club's expectations.
The Germans had an offer of £102 million to activate the option to make Philippe stay permanently and they failed to until he ran out of contract and will now have to return to Barcelona or sort for his future elsewhere.
