Manchester United To Extend Ighalo Odion's Loan Contract Until January

Odion Ighalo may not be leaving Manchester United next month as the club is reportedly in talks with Shanghai Shenhua for an extension of his loan contract until January.

The Nigerian international was due to leave United on May 31 when his loan deal expires and a loan extension agreement is yet to be reached with the Chinese club. By the way, the Asian Pacific club is demanding a fee of £20 million for United to sign the player to a permanent contract.

In the quest to keep the forward, United are understood to be in talks with their Chinese counterparts for yet another six-month loan deal for the player as revealed by his agent to a Norwegian outlet Nettavisen

Meanwhile, Shanghai had offered to extend Ighalo's contract for another two years with a wage increase of £400,000/week on his return from the Premier League. The new contract would keep the 31-year-old until 2024 at the Chinese Super League side.

Ighalo has proven to be a valuable forward to United during his short spell which suffered interference from the Covid-19 pandemic break that has lasted for over two months. Nevertheless, he was able to contribute to the United eleven winning streak and also to reach the quarter-final of the FA Cup having scored four goals in eight appearances in all competitions.
