Hertha Berlin Snatch Point Off RB Leipzig At Home
RB Leipzig could not leapfrog to the second position on the table as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Hertha Berlin after gifting a late equalizer to the side by conceding a penalty which was converted for Krzysztof Piatek to convert with eight minutes remaining.
Both sides seized the corner to open their scoring but Berlin moved ahead first early into the game with Marko Grujic poking home Marvin Plattenhardt's cross from a corner. Leipzig responded before half hour of play with Lukas Klostermann heading home an equalizer from Christopher Nkuku's corner.
Just as the host gifted away an equalizer for conceding an avoidable penalty, Jarstein's poor goalkeeping saw the ball bounced off his hand and rolled into the net as Leipzig moved up in the lead from Patrik Schick's 18-yard shot.
Leipzig fell one-man down after Halstenberg was red-carded after a second yellow card offense and that brought the pressure of the host, leaving their defense penetrable with Matheus Cunha being brought down twice in the 18-yard box.
Matheus eventually drew a penalty on the second occasion for Ademola Lookman's rough tackle in the box. Piatek had no difficulties converting the spot-kick to level the scores in 82nd minute.
A maximum point could have put Leipzig over Borussia Dortmund by a point. The loss left them in the third position and closely trailed by Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen. Besides Bayern Munich that lead the table with seven-point clear, the race to making top-four for a Champions League slot is yet pretty much tight.
