Formula One: The Dutch Grand Prix Has Been Cancelled

The 2020 Dutch Grand Prix has been completely cancelled over the Covid-19 pandemic confirmed the country's racing sports director Jan Lammers.

Formula 1 is expected to return from lockdown with the first race set to hold in Austria on July 5. Racing was suspended when a member of McLaren was tested positive for coronavirus symptoms ahead of the Australian Grand Prix which was meant to be the season opener.

The cancellation will be the Dutch Grand Prix's first in 35 years and Lammars pleaded with the fan to "be patient" as the decision to cancel this year's event was reached after the organizers and Formula 1 had considered the possibility of holding the race behind closed doors.

"We ask everyone to be patient," Lammers pleaded. "We and Formula 1 have investigated the potential to hold a rescheduled race this year without spectators, but we would celebrate this moment, the return of Formula 1 in Zandvoort together with our racing fans in the Netherlands."

Racing events are expected to be held in Hungary, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France while two races are expected to be held in Silverstone in Britain and likewise in Austria after the Formula agreed on a deal with both countries' organizers.
