FA Cup To Return In June, Final Date Scheduled For August 1
The FA Cup has been set to restart next month with the first set of fixtures scheduled to hold on the weekend of June 27-28 and the final date of the competition set for August 1.
Before the competition was interrupted in March by the coronavirus pandemic, the FA Cup had reached the quarter-final stage with Manchester City drawn against Newcastle United, Manchester United v Norwich City, Sheffield v Arsenal, and Leicester City v Chelsea.
Mark Bullingham, FA chief executive, confirmed the resumption of the competition, stating that the dates are chosen with consideration to the "health and safety" implication that it could have on players, staff, and football fans.
"The health and wellbeing of players, staff, and supporters remain our priority," said Bullingham announcing the return of the games on Friday.
Restart date for the Premier League was announced on Thursday after an agreement between the clubs, and the first set of fixtures scheduled to hold on June 17 but will resume fully on the weekend on June 20.
Bullingham added, "The competition has been an integral part of the English football caretaker for nearly 150 years and we would like to thank the Premier League executive and clubs for their support in scheduling the remaining matches during this unprecedented time."
Likewise, the Spanish La Liga restart date has also been scheduled for June 12 after the country's government gave the green light that professional sports events can return from June 8. However, the German Bundesliga had resumed since May 16, making it is the first domestic league in Europe to restart from the long coronavirus pandemic break.
