David Luiz Set To Leave Arsenal As Free Agent

The clock is ticking on David Luiz's contract which is set to end by next month and he may have to leave Arsenal as a free agent unless there is an extension on his contract.

David only joined the club in August from Chelsea on a contract of £8m transfer fee, that was just for a season spell, and there have not been any talks with the centre-back for a contract renewal despite having until June left remaining in the contract.

The Brazilian is one big figure in the team's defense and has played vital roles in the team's campaign this season, however, all hope is not lost as he has a year extension clause in his contract which Arsenal are yet to activate for him to stay longer.

Giving a hint on his future as he approaches retirement age, the 33-year-old expressed his desire to join Benfica someday being a club that he "love" and his dream place to end his professional career.

"I always said that I would like to end my career at Benfica," he was quoted as saying on the Portuguese club official website earlier this month.

He added: "In football everything changes, what is true today tomorrow is a lie, but my feeling is not. I love Benfica. My dream is to step on the pitch of Estadio da Luz in their colours."

David left Chelsea to join Arsenal last year after winning the UEFA Europa League title with the team during the same spell that he also won with the team the Premier League title (2016/17).
