Chelsea To Extend Willian, Olivier Giroud's Contract
Willian and Olivier Giroud will be staying at Chelsea to the end of the season as the club manager Frank Lampard revealed he is considering extending their contract to enable them to finish the season with the team.
Both players are set to leave Stanford Bridge by the end of June which is when their contract will be due and if not extended they will have to leave as a free agent despite the side having nine games to play when the Premier League resumption from the coronavirus lockdown break.
Tottenham and Arsenal are already in the line-up for Willian who had said that he would like to remain in London when he leaves Chelsea. The Brazilian wanted a two-year extension which the club not keen to offer him and has been tipped for a swap with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
If there is any need for Chelsea to keep both Willian and Giroud to the end of the season, Lampard told Sky Sports revealed it is for the commitment to the club and the need to maintain the same team as it was from the start of the season.
"It is still uncertain if and when to play will get underway. We have big players [out of contract] so that's something I'm obviously looking at very carefully," said Lampard.
Professional games are expected to return from the suspension over the killer bug in June but matches are expected to be behind closed doors over fears of coronavirus infections.
"The ones who are out of contract here have been great servants for the club, and actually have a lot of feeling for the club," Lampard added. " I would love the squad to look as it has all season, but we'll have to see how that works.
