Bundesliga Set To Resume Next Week Behind Close-Doors
Speculations are having it that German Bundesliga is set to return next week as the country awaits Chancellor Angello Markle's announcement on lifting the coronavirus lockdown on Wednesday.
Just like any other European countries, the Bundesliga had since March been suspended over the outbreak of the killer bug but the country has recorded a considerably low loss of lives to the pandemic unlike their neighbouring countries like the United Kingdom and France.
Clubs in the country have already been allowed to hold outdoor training sessions since last month under the strictly social distancing rules. Should Merkle give the go-ahead to lift the restriction on football in her address on Wednesday, games effectively will resume only that they might be in close-doors.
Unlike Bundesliga, Ligue 1 has already crowned Paris Saint Germain as the champions of the season based on a directive issued by Uefa which suggests that football leagues in the continent can decide title winners based on merit if the season can not be finished.
The race for the title is yet tight in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich leading the table by six points clear bottom of the top four. In this case, the Uefa directive can not effective unless the season resumes.
In the Dutch league, the season was canceled instead, costing Ajax the title after the country's government announced no professional sporting events will resume fully until September.
