Arsenal Join Race For Flamengo Star Gerson Despite Link To Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey

Arsenal have joined in with Tottenham Hotspurs in the race to signing Flamengo midfielder Gerson in the summer transfer window amidst interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

Gunners move for the Ghanaian international is faced with a setback as the Spaniards have lined player up for a swap deal with Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over the fears that they might find his buyout clause of £45million not affordable.

Alex has three more years to run in his contract with Liverpool and in spite of having a devastating outing this season over a knee injury, he is yet amongst Jurgen Klopp's favourites having made 13 league game starts before football suspension in March.

The Brazilian star's father, Marco Santos confirmed his son, for sometimes now, has for a while been closely monitored by European clubs during an interview with Yahoo Sports. Besides interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, Santos also confirmed his son is linked to Borussia Dortmund.

Gerson's first transfer to a European club was to AS Roma (2016-19) where he lasted for three seasons and left the Italian for his home country after his one season-long loan spell at Fiorentina.
