Watford Sign Pape Gueye From Le Havre To Five-Year Contract
Watford have signed Pape Gueye from the Ligue 2 side Le Havre to a five-year contract which will be in effect from July 1 when he will officially be a Hornet player.
The defensive midfielder was signed as a free agent from the French side as he has until summer in his contract with Le Havre. Gueye started his career from the academy at the club and was promoted to the senior team in 2017.
The deal was done despite football suspension over coronavirus pandemic but the agreement between Hornets and the player comes before the French government announced that professional sports events will remain suspended until September 1.
Since both Ligue 1 and 2 will not resume until September, the Frenchman is technically Watford's newly-signed player as the French government directive on football resumption, suggested Gueye had played his last game for the Ligue 2 side when the suspension came into effect in March.
