Sebastian Vettel Edges Out Lewis Hamilton For New Deal With Ferarri
Hamilton, 35, has until December 31 in his contract with Mercedes and the German racing team boss Toto Wolff had assured the Brit of his desire to keep him in the team. Nevertheless, Hamilton would be a catch for Ferarri should Vettel choose to leave.
"I've made that clear in Australia, so it's not a discussion," said Sebastian on his intention to stay with Ferarri. "Whatever the deal will be, it will be whatever I and the team are comfortable with, so in terms of duration I don't know."
The German driver's contract is expected to run out by the end of the season and there are contenders hoping to take the slot from him. Amongst those that have approached the Ferrari champion John Elkann behind closed doors for the deal is Hamilton according to The Sun.
"One of the key things now for everyone is to remain patient," he added on when he would be renewing his contract with the team, he added: "At the moment it looks like there will be no racing before June and even July."
Last season, there were speculations that Hamilton would have to join Ferarri after his contract expires based on Wolff's speech which teased about the possibilities of Sebastian or any other drivers joining Mercedes.
Apparent, Hamilton will have to remain with Mercedes as Sebastian's performance was below expectations for having being outclassed by newly-introduced teammate Charles Leclerc.
The 2020 season has been unable to kick-off sequel to the Covid-19 pandemic which has forced lockdown of most cities in Europe and around the world.
