Rory McIlroy Calls For Ryder Cup Postponement

Rory McIlroy has thrown his weight behind golf players, who are calling for the suspension of the Ryder Cup until 2021 over the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. They deemed that to be better than having to play the tournament behind close-doors.

The Northern Irishman called for the suspension of the event in an Instagram live chat when he said playing at the event without fans will not make it be the Ryder Cup everybody knows about.

"Obviously it would be better for the Europeans to play without fans because we wouldn't have to deal with some of the stuff you have to put up with," said Mcllroy.  but at the same time, it's not a Ryder Cup."

The event is scheduled to take place on 25-27 September at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin and Team Europe had been calling for it rescheduling to 2021 before Mcllroy joined the movement.

Until now, four golf major events have already been postponed with Open Championship canceled, the number is set to increase with Ryder Cup should it be postponed
