R Kelly Files For Release From Prison Over Coronavirus Outbreak

R Kelly wanted out of the prison at this time of Covid-19 pandemic with infections reported to have been recorded in the same prison that he has been held since last July. He is asking the court handling his case to grant him freedom over the pandemic.

This is the second time the R&B singer will approach the court for his release over the fears of contracting the virus after six inmates and seven staff members were tested positive for coronavirus. Kelly's lawyer Michael Leonard also argued that the probability of his client being infected is high since cases of infection have now been reported of in the prison he is held.

"Inmates are reportedly banging on doors, walls, and windows begging for help," Leonard stated in a motion filed at the court. "That Mr. Kelly will be infected with this disease, is now, unfortunately, an absolute probability."

The 53-year-old is held at the Metropolitan Correction Centre in Chicago for dozens of charges of alleged sexual assault of women at his residence and exploitation of underage girls. To all the charges, he has pleaded not guilty.

Leonard further argued that her client has not been sentenced but held in custody because of the possibility that "he will flee or attempt to obstruct, threaten or intimidate prospective witnesses." All these reasons, he has argued against because Kelly is just too famous to flee or go around unnoticed.
