Pep Guardiola Loses Mother To Coronavirus

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has lost his mother after she contracted the deadly bug COVID-19 virus, she was aged 82.

Guardiola, who had donated one million euro toward tackling the virus in his country, Spain, lost his mother Dolors Sala Carrio on Monday afternoon. The deceased had shown symptoms related to the virus before she was tested and the result came back positive.

City, in a statement, described the passing away of the deceased as "devastating" in this period when the country Spain, is on lockdown over the pandemic as the death toll from the virus continues to rise - it is one of the worse hit in the world.

"The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep's mother Dolors Sala Carrio in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus," the statement reads.

Before all football games in the continent were suspended over the outbreak, Pep had led City to win their third successful EFL Carabao Cup in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on March 1.

Pep's men are second behind Liverpool in the Premier League, but that position does not guarantee their Champions League qualification following Uefa's two-season ban served them for breaking the FFP regulations.
