Paris Saint-Germain Crowned Ligue 1 Champions

Paris Saint Germain have finally been crowned winners of the 2019/20 season after the season was forced to be called off over the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

The league was eventually canceled after France Prime Minister issued a statement that professional sports will not be allowed to resume until September 1.

UEFA had stated that leagues can decide on winners of their respective leagues on merit without discrimination. Thus, the crowning of PSG is in accordance with UEFA's directive, making them champions of Ligue 1 for the sixth time in a row.

"This 9th league championship title in the club history is dedicated by Paris Saint-Germain to all healthcare staff and to the thousand of frontline professionals working every day to keep the country running," said the club in a statement.

Having won the league, they have also qualified for the Champions League alongside Marseille and Rennes while Lille and Nice, who are fourth and fifth in the table have qualified for the Europa League.
