Michael Jordan Recalls Bumping Into Teammates At Chicago Bulls Snuffing Cocaine

Michael Jordan is one of the all-time best NBA players but the beginning of his career as a young kid was not the best he would think of. The Chicago Bulls back then was a hotbed for drug doing in the game.

That is not an allegation, it was notorious for the use of drugs and the team was nicknamed 'traveling-cocaine circus'. Jordan witnessed that but was not dragged into a user like the rest of the team.

Jordan spent nearly all his NBA years at Bulls where he won six Championships trophy and was crowned the NBA MVP six times at the club. In his docuseries The Last Dance about his reign at the club, the 57-year-old narrated how that happened but was subtle admitting to it.

When asked about the cocaine issue that Bulls were known for, being naive, Jordan revealed his first-hand experience was when he bumped into the team happily doing cocaine in a hotel in Peoria, Illinois.

"I was trying to find my teammates," he said during their stay in a hotel in Peoria. "I start knocking on doors, I get to this one door and I could hear someone say, 'shhh, someone's outside.'"

'I walk in and practically the whole team was in there. And I was like, things I've never seen in my life, you know, as a young kid. You got your lines over here, you got your weed smokers over here, you got your women over here."

At this time, Jordan was just 21-year-old and was not really into the teammates like that but would rather keep with his family especially his mother Doloris. Unlike others, he would not meddle with hard drugs because he feared getting arrested.

A former teammate, Rod Higgins, was with him in this episode of the docu-series and gave more details about Jordan on what he was like at the time in the team. Without miming words, Higgins revealed Jordan was more of drinking orange juice and 7Up than going to nightclubs at the time.

Not until Jordan was drafted into the club, Bulls had never won the NBA Championships trophy but that changed in 1991, when they broke the jinx and retained the title for three consecutive seasons (1991-93). They did again for three consecutive seasons between 1996-98 - they won the title in all six NBA Finals appearances.

By the time Jordan retired in 1999 only to return and join Washington Wizzard in 2001-03, Bulls have never again won the NBA Championships title. Jordan's spell was a game-changer for the so-called 'traveling-cocaine' Bulls.
