Gabon FA President Urged Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang To Join Club More "Ambitious" Than Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been urged to join a more "ambitious club" than Arsenal in the next transfer window by his country's Football Association president.

Arsenal are set to lose the Gabonese in summer as he has not shown interest in renewing his contract which runs until 2021 despite attempts made by the club to encourage him to. The club's manager Mikel Arteta has also reiterated his determination to keep the striker "under any circumstances" at Emirates Stadium but all that did not seem to be convincing enough for the forward.

Pierre Alain Mounguengui, Gabon FA president, has a piece of brotherly advice for his countryman as he counts down to his contract expiration at Arsenal. He wanted him to use it as the option to seek a side that has an ambition for winning trophies, unlike Arsenal where he has won none.

"I don't want to say Arsenal aren't ambitious," Mounguengui told ESPN. "But Arsenal don't have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned."

Barcelona are understood to be closely monitoring the 30-year-old with the anticipation of making an offer for him as their replacement for Luiz Suarez who might reportedly leave Nou Camp on the end of his contract in 2021.

Mounguengui clarified that he was speaking based on how the striker is viewed in his country as one of the best players in the world and believed that if he could make a move to "a more ambitious club, he'd definitely find his place there."
