French Grand Prix Rescheduled Over Fears Of Conoravirus Pandemic

This season's French Grand Prix has joined the list of races that have been called off over the fears of the Covid-19 pandemic which has forced cities in Europe to be put on lockdown.

The event which was supposed to hold on June 28 was rescheduled because France President Emmanuel Macron has extended restrictions on mass gathering until mid-July.

Confirming the change of date, the event's managing director, Eric Boullier, said the cancellation is necessary as it is "impossible to maintain the Formula 1 Grand Prix de France on 28 June." Meanwhile, the season is expected to resume with the first race on July 5 in Austria according to Formula One boss Chase Carey.

Chase revealed in a statement that they are in consultation with every stakeholder in the sport on many issues regarding the procedures and operation of events in the season. More importantly, that they "expect the early races to be without fans but hope fans will be part of our events as we move further into the schedule,"

The season was interrupted when a member of the McLaren Racing Team was tested positive for Covid-19 symptoms in Melbourne ahead of the 2020 Australian Grand Prix. The whole team was quarantined until the victim was tested negative to the virus.

He added, "The health and safety of all involved will continued to be priority one and we will only go forward if we are confident we have reliable procedures to address both risks and possible issues."
