UEFA Postpones Champions League And Europa League Finals Date
UEFA has announced the postponement of the Champions League and Europa League finals for the reason of the global outbreak of the deadly Covid-19 virus.
Nearly all other sporting events have suffered the same fate of cancellations just as football, a measure which is taking against the spread of the coronavirus that has claimed well over 1,500 lives globally with the highest fatality recorded in Italy.
Both continental competitions are still thereabout in the quarter-finals stage and the finals which are originally held in May 2020, the body cofirmed in a statement released on its official website has been postponed and that "no decision has yet been made on rearranged dates."
It added, "The working group, established last week as a result of the conference call among the stakeholders of European football, which was chaired by UEFA President, Aleksander Ceferin, will analyse the options available."
Manchester City and Chelsea are the two English teams remaining in the Champions League but City stands a better chance of reaching the semi-finals after beating Real Madrid 2-1 at Bernabeu Stadium in the first-leg tie - Chelsea conceded 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich.
Manchester United and Wolverhampton also are the only English clubs remaining in the Europa League after Arsenal was knockout by Olympiakos in the Last 32.
