Tiger Woods Withdraws From Players Championship Over Back Injury

Tiger Woods has for the reason of a back injury, chosen to withdraw from participating at the Players Championship at Sawgrass in Florida coming up next week - He also missed his week's Arnold Palmer International.

It is just about a year when Woods won his first Masters in 14 years in a remarkable comeback and outclassed Francesco Molinari to clinch the title in Augusta, Georgia.

The five-time Masters title winner announced his withdrawal in a tweeted on Friday and explained that his decision was based on how he felt about his body which is best for him to comply with.

"It was not an easy decision, but I will not be attending @THEPLAYERSchamp. I have to listen to my body and properly rest when needed," he wrote on Twitter.

The withdrawal potentially will afford him time to prepare for the Masters in April last year. He followed that in the same year by winning his 82nd PGA Tour at Zozo Championship in Tokyo, Japan.

He explained further, "My back is simply just not ready for play next week. I'm sad to miss one of the best events of the season. OUR Championship."
