Premier League Chiefs Suspend All Fixtures Until 3 April For Coronavirus Outbreak
As the deadly bug infection continues to spread amongst sportsmen, English football chiefs have announced the postponement of all games in the Premier League and other top-flight games until 3 April.
COVID-19 virus was first tested positive on the owner of Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos, Evangelos Miranikas after he jetted out of the United Kingdon for a trip to Greece where he has self-isolated.
There were fears Miranikas had infected some Arsenal members of staff after meeting with them during Olympiakos' Europa League game against Gunners in Greece, but the medical report came out to be negative. Unfortunately, Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta was later tested positive for the virus - Arteta announced that on Thursday.
Statement released by the FA regarding cancellation of fixtures reads, "This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus."
Besides Premier League games, al fixtures of Women's Super League and Women's Championship have also been suspended including Three Lions' friendlies against Italy and Denmark which was meant to hold in the month.
Since the association has no other options than suspending all fixtures across the board, it explained further that: "The decision is being made purely on the number of cases requiring self-isolation and the impact on facilities."
Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has also been tested positive for the virus and has self-isolated. In addition to that, three Leicester City players have been tested positive as well.
