Novak Djokovic Pledges €1 Million For Medical Equipment Purchase To Tackle Covid-19 Virus
Tennis champion Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena have given their support to the fight against the Covid-19 virus pandemic by donating one million euros to their country Serbia to purchase medical equipment needed for the course.
This season's ATP tours have been interrupted by the virus outbreak, leading to cancelations of events over the fears that players, members of staff and fans may contract the virus.
Announcing the pledge, the 17-time Grand Slam winner revealed via his official Twitter account that the donation is made through his own foundation and reminded his fans and his native people of Serbia: "We are in this together".
He wrote: "My wife @jelenadjokovic and I have donated 1 million euros via @novakfoundation for the purchase of medical equipment to help fight #COVID19 in Serbia. We are in this together."
Djokovic kicked off the season with his 17th Gram Slam title in Australian Open after outlasting Austrian ace Dominic Thiem, extending his major singles title to a total of 79.
