Manchester City v Arsenal Postponed Over Fears Of Coronavirus Contraction
Manchester City match against Arsenal on Wednesday has been forced to be postponed over fears of coronavirus as it is understood that Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis met with Gunners ahead of their Europa League game against the Greek side at Karaiskakis Stadium two weeks ago.
Marinakis was confirmed to have tested positive for the virus on his trip to Greece and is already showing the first sign of the virus. He was believed to be fine whilst in Nottingham without any symptoms or illnesses before jetting out to Greece.
City, who defended the EFL Carabao Cup for a trilogy in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, confirmed the postponement in a statement released on Wednesday and revealed the decision is taken as a "precautionary measure" following a medical instruction.
"The decision to postpone tonight's game has been taken as a precautionary measure on medical advice," City said adding that it understood some personnel from Arsenal have contacts with Marinakis, who has been tested positive of COVID-19 virus.
Similar to City's decision, Chelsea will be playing their Champions League game against Bayern Munich behind closed doors likewise Manchester United's Europa League last-16 game against LASK on Thursday.
Reacting to the postponement, Arsenal said in a statement that contrary to fears of contraction of the virus amongst its personnel, medical experts advise they have received about the club, "Put the risk of them developing COVID-19 at extremely low" level.
