La Liga President Says Football Games Might Resume In May
As all football fixtures remain suspended across Europe over the Covid-19 virus, there are plans for league games to resume in May so as to finish the 2019/20 season by June.
Spanish La Liga president Javier Tabas revealed that football fans should expect games to resume by mid-May across the continent. He assured that it is possible that games return even earlier than that but it will depend on the respective leagues' host country's government and health authorities.
"In mid-May, we should be able to be back on with all European competitions," Tebas said in a discussion with Marca. "It could be before, but that is the date we've got in mind about being able to resume."
The Premier League might be resuming much earlier than that as the FA intends to lift suspension by the end of April but games might be played behind close-doors.
"When we will start to play again there will be all the medical guarantees, but that will not depend on us," Tebas said in a separate interview with Spanish tabloid El Pais. "It will depend on each country's government. If they can guarantee that it is safe to play, we will play. If not, we won't'"
