Jurgen Klopp Slams Atletico Madrid For "Improper Football" Against Liverpool In Champions League Exit

Liverpool failed to make it past the Champions League last-16 as Atletico Madrid came from behind to eclipse their run to clinch the victory in a stunning extra-time comeback and ended up defeated by 3-2 (Aggr. 4-2) at Anfield.

Marco Llorente led the Spaniards in the rally by scoring twice to cancel out Liverpool's lead and Alvaro Morata completed the comeback with a header for the third in added minutes to the extra-minutes. Reds' manager Jurgen Klopp is finding it hard to come to terms with the loss and blamed the La Liga side for playing an "improper football".

The German has nothing against his team and is "completely" pleased with their performance but the tactic deployed by his counterpart Diego Simeone is such that he said it was hard for to "understand".

"It's so difficult to play a side like this [Atletico Madrid]," he told BT Sport. "I don't understand with the quality they have the football they play. They could play proper football but they stand deep and have counter-attacks."

Liverpool had gone up in the lead with Georgino Wijnaldum opening the scoreline and Roberto Firmino doubled the lead but they came crashing down three minutes later.

This is the first time in three seasons that Liverpool will not reach the final of the Champions League and that made Klopp feel like a "really bad loser" despite his men's effort to make it past the Spaniards.

He added recalling their past, "We know in the past two years we had some lucky moments in the Champions League - you have to reach two finals."
