Indian Wells Cancelled Over Coronavirus Outbreak
Organizer s of the BNP Paribas Open has announced the tournament will not hold blaming their decision on the outbreak of the deadly bug, COVID 19 virus.
Indian Wells, a Master 1000 event, is one of the biggest tournaments in tennis often held in March in California but for the interest of the fans and public likewise, the players, the event director, Tommy Haas, revealed: "they are prepared to hold it on another date" after a closed-door meeting with stakeholders.
"The Riverside County Public Health Department has declared a public health emergency for the Coachella Valley after a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) locally. As a result, the 2020 BNP Paribas Open will not take place at this time," the organizers confirmed in a statement released on it official Twitter account.
The virus has claimed some lives in the United States but not compared with those recorded in Wuhan, China which is the epicentre of the outbreak since December 2019.
