Former Real Madrid President Dies Of Covid-19 Virus
Real Madrid have lost their former president Lorenzo Sanz after contracting the Covid-19 virus, his family confirmed. He passed away on Saturday, aged 76.
The deadly bug pandemic has forced European leagues to suspend all fixtures until the May when games are expected to resume but that will depend on directives of the government of the host countries.
"My father just died," Sanz's son Lorenzo San Duran announced on Twitter. "He did not deserve this end in this manner. One of the best, most courageous and hard working people I have seen in my life. His family and Real Madrid were his passion."
The deceased reigned as president at Real for five years after he had worked as the sides sporting director between 1985 and 1995. During his reign as the president, he led the club to win their first European Cup in 32 years.
After leaving his role as Real's president in 2000, he proceeded to buy the majority stalk in Malaga - a second division side.
