FA Cup: Arsenal Beat Portsmouth To Advance To Quarter-final
Arsenal recovered from shock elimination from the Europa League to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup by beating Portsmouth 2-0 in their quest for the first title under Mikel Arteta.
Gunners were disappointed by the way they were eliminated from the Europa League by Olympiakos despite a stunning comeback with a bicycle kick from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Pompey were unable to stop Gunners from qualifying for the last eight of the competition in spite of their impressive performance.
Sokratis Papastathopolos struck in the first to break the deadlock on the brink of halftime and Eddie Nkietah tapped in the second goal - Reiss Nelson assisted in both goals with a cross.
Arteta, without a doubt, was satisfied with the team's performance and was glad the made the right decision by using the youngsters other than the regular players like Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Lacazette.
"I'm enjoying working with the players," said Arteta afterward. "They deserve a chance. It's always a risk but they're worth the risk."
